This
is a beautiful book by Sharon Draper. It is written in first person by an
eleven year old girl who struggles with cerebral palsy. It gives you a look
inside Melody’s mind and body and the struggles she faces just wanting to be
normal.
Rating:
This
book is fantastic. I would recommend
this for adults and students alike. This
book received a South Carolina Children’s Book Award in 2012.

Curriculum Connections: (These standards are simply the ones I found right
off as some I may use for a lesson with the book listed. I in no way am trying to state these are the

Reading:
This
would be a great book for guided reading groups
or as a read aloud.
This book creates so
many openings for writing and speaking and research. The students could write a letter to
Melody. The students could debate the
different characters and the character traits.
This is just the beginning of the ideas that I found coming from the
book. The students could also do a book
trailer or anti-bullying video.
