Curriculum Connections: (These standards are simply the ones I found right
off as some I may use for a lesson with the book listed. I in no way am trying to state these are the
only standards that fit this book.)
CCSS
RI.6.1
Reading:
This
would be a book I would use as a Read Aloud book. I would spend the first part of the lesson
reading from the book, asking questions, identifying words students didn’t
know, etc. Then for the second half of
the lesson I would have the students so writing on what we have read. http://www.bookrags.com/lessonplan/mockingjay/
The writing could be in any form including
drawings that the student prefers, but it will have to relay a clear picture of
comprehension for the student. I would
then use these findings in my guided reading groups.
Writing and Speaking:
There would be a writing assignment
after each reading. The students will
either reflect on the reading, or they will address a specific topic depending on
if a mini-lesson was given on the particular day.
Additional
uses:
This book could also be
used in science in many ways.
